Music is something to share, to talk about, and occasionally ram down other people's throats. This is a blog that does all of that.

Guilty of an Ugly Photo

Well, in my never-ending quest to bring you all the latest embarrassing news on gay pop stars called George, here's the up to the minute poop on Boy George. Remember his bust last October in New York? Well, here's what the BBC is reporting today:

Singer Boy George has had a charge of possessing cocaine dropped by a New York court.

He admitted wasting police time over an incident last October and was sentenced to five days of community service and fined $1,000 (£575).

The singer, whose real name is George O'Dowd, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to falsely reporting a burglary at a brief hearing in Manhattan Criminal Court.

The singer was ordered to attend a drug rehabilitation programme.

The 44-year-old, who made his name as the front man of 1980s pop band Culture Club, attended the hearing.

Judge Anthony Ferrarar warned the defendant that he would have a criminal record which "never goes away".

The judge said to Mr O'Dowd: "You are admitting to me the following ... you called the police, you summoned them to your apartment by dialling 911 and reported that your apartment had been burglarised when in fact you knew your apartment had not been burglarised."

The singer must also pay court costs of $160 dollars (£91).

The Very Odd Couple

I'm on a mission to make us all feel old.

Just learned out that 21 years ago today, Dead Or Alive's "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)" hit number one in the UK.

Dead or Alive. God, I loved that record. Still do. Thought for a hot second that it was Boy George, and even when I saw Pete Burns I wasn't completely convinced. Still, nice to hear it even today.

Even Morrissey was a fan of Dead or Alive. Unbelieveable? Check out this interview with Pete and Moz from October 1985. The pic alone is awesome. I love how Morrissey says "You Spin Me Round" is a hallmark in British music and it will never ever date. You know what? He was right.

Beauty and the 24-Year Old Beat

I have to admit that when the dust settled on the 80s, I ended up liking the Bangles more than the Go-Gos. However, on this date in 1982, Belinda Carlisle and the gang made quite a stir on the album charts.

High on the strengths of the singles "Our Lips are Sealed" and "We Got the Beat," the Go-Go's album Beauty and the Beat hit number-one 24 years ago today. It was a cool 60s sound, on the oh-so-cool I.R.S. Records label, and the chicks were cute, too. And it was the first album by a female group to hit No. 1 on the Billboard charts since the Supremes did it in 1966 with Supremes A-Go-Go....hmmm, interesting choice of words.

By 1984, the Go-Gos had gone-gone, and only a year later, the Bangles hit the charts in a big way.

Best Go-Go's songs:

1. We Got the Beat
2. Vacation
3. Head Over Heels
4. Get Up and Go
5. Our Lips are Sealed
