Music is something to share, to talk about, and occasionally ram down other people's throats. This is a blog that does all of that.

Beauty and the 24-Year Old Beat

I have to admit that when the dust settled on the 80s, I ended up liking the Bangles more than the Go-Gos. However, on this date in 1982, Belinda Carlisle and the gang made quite a stir on the album charts.

High on the strengths of the singles "Our Lips are Sealed" and "We Got the Beat," the Go-Go's album Beauty and the Beat hit number-one 24 years ago today. It was a cool 60s sound, on the oh-so-cool I.R.S. Records label, and the chicks were cute, too. And it was the first album by a female group to hit No. 1 on the Billboard charts since the Supremes did it in 1966 with Supremes A-Go-Go....hmmm, interesting choice of words.

By 1984, the Go-Gos had gone-gone, and only a year later, the Bangles hit the charts in a big way.

Best Go-Go's songs:

1. We Got the Beat
2. Vacation
3. Head Over Heels
4. Get Up and Go
5. Our Lips are Sealed
